Join Nashville on the Move!

Held the first Friday of every month, Nashville on the Move is a free lunchtime walking event designed to help employees become more active during their workday. Nashville on the Move also encourages companies to take steps to improve their employees' health by taking the following specific measures:
  • Activity breaks throughout the day
  • Serving healthy meeting food and snacks
  • Making water the primary workplace drink
Nashville on the Move is organized by the YMCA of Middle Tennessee's Pioneering Healthier Communities initiative in partnership with Metro Public Health and area business partners; all working towards the same goal of offering work-site wellness strategies to help encourage more employees to be active during the work day.

How to Participate
Just come out and walk any portion of a Nashville on the Move walking route. Form an office walking group to join you and walk together, or just plan to meet new walking buddies on the route from other companies.

Indoor Walking Options
With respect to unpredictable changing weather patterns in the late fall and winter months, we encourage participants to find indoor options when bad weather strikes.

Many companies in the downtown Nashville area have already selected or provided their indoor options to their employees and we encourage you or your company to also take that next step.

If you choose to walk outdoors during the winter months, please remember to bring a water bottle with you.  We will not have water stations set up during colder weather months, but encourage you to bring a bottle of water if you feel that would help support your walk.  We still encourage you to use the outdoor walking routes to join others helping get Nashville on the move.

Everyone is welcome

Nashville on the Move is for all fitness levels-start where you are by doing something more today than you were yesterday. Walk just one block, walk five blocks, or walk the entire course. Everyone can do something! Make plans to join us and bring your co-workers.

Hot weather moves Aug. 6 NOTM to the morning

Out of concerns for walkers' health during the current heat wave, Nashville on the Move will not hold its regular lunchtime walk on Aug. 6. However, several groups will be walking the routes in the morning before work and we encourage you to join them! Be sure to bring your own water (stations will not be set up), and we look forward to returning to our usual lunchtime walk when cooler temps hopefully prevail in September.

Nashville on the Move returns June 4!

Music City employers will join together to make a commitment to improve their employees' health during Nashville on the Move's monthly walk on Friday, June 4.

Downtown-area employees are encouraged to meet on the downtown side of the Shelby Street Bridge at 11:30 a.m. Walkers will then proceed across the bridge and circle LP Field. A water station will be set up on the bridge to provide refreshments and information to walkers.

Representatives from Mayor Karl Dean's office will join walkers and encourage Nashville employers to make a commitment to take specific steps to encourage their employees' health and well-being.

Walkers unable to attend Nashville on the Move at the Shelby Street Bridge location are encouraged to walk along three additional routes; one at the Farmers' Market, one at Legislative Plaza and the other at Centennial Park. Water and information will also be available at Nashville on the Move stations on each of these routes from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Update: May 7 Walk Canceled

Due to this past weekend's storms and flooding, Nashville on the Move's May 7 walk has been canceled. Our next walk is now scheduled to take place on Friday, June 3.

Our thoughts are with those individuals and communities hit hardest by the flooding, and encourage everyone to volunteer and lend any other assistance they can to relief and recovery efforts.
